Dear Dae-won and Eric, Insofar as Minimalism created sculptural
installations (I am thinking of Robert Morris's Greene Gallery
exhibition of 1964 and his piece called Hearing) it seems to have paved
the way for the ubiquitous contemporary practice of Installation Art.
In addition, Minimalism's emphasis on the conditions of reception of
the work organized a perceptual experience that has been identified as
'phenomenological.' This would seem to have prepared for the
experience of video installations, such as those by Bill Viola.
I hope this answer is helpful to you, Sincerely, Rosalind Krauss
